| Frontierland
features unpainted wooden shacks, wagon wheels, and tumbleweeds to make the area look as
if you were in the Old West or along the banks of the Mississippi during the mid
1800s. This section of the
Magic Kingdom combines of some of the more sedate attractions like Tom
Sawyers Island with exciting favorites like Splash Mountain
and the Big Thunder Railroad.
Tom Sawyer's Island
provides a great respite for weary parents. Although there are lots of paths through the
wooded island, there are also plenty of shady places to sit and relax. This low-tech
attraction is a perennial parent favorite.
If you don't mind getting wet, try Splash
Mountain - it's still one of the best water flume rides around. Warning:
There's a lot of splash in Splash Mountain - you will get wet.
You can get some of the thrills without the
water on the Big Thunder Railroad. It's a great starter roller coaster -
the motion is usually not too much for most children, yet at the same time old
thrill ride vets can appreciate the ride's attention to detail.
The Old West would be incomplete without a
saloon and stage show, so Disney built the lively Diamond Horshoe.
You can stop in and have a light lunch and ice cream, then stay for the 30 minute
show that features comedy and dancing Annie Oakley-style.
Another enjoyable musical show is the Country
Bear Jamboree. Intended for small children, this show features
audio-animatronic bears that belt out catchy rock n roll songs and some funny jokes.
