| You'll feel like
Indiana Jones on some of the rides in Adventureland. The buildings and sets in this
section of the Magic Kingdom are designed as an amalgamation of exotic locales. You don't
quite know where you're supposed to be, but you know it's far from home. The sounds of
strange birds and other creatures in the distance definitely intensifies this feeling. One of the highlights of Adventureland is the Jungle
Cruise, one of the most popular rides in Disney. One of the reasons this ride is
so popular is that it is fun for everyone. Small children won't get frightened and older
riders won't get bored. This happy medium combined with the experience of a leisurely
river cruise make it a winner.
The other ride in Adventureland that is
sure to have a line is the classic Pirates of the Caribbean. This
swashbuckling ride featuring animatronic pirates is one of the all time classic Disney
attractions. You can't say you've been to Disney unless you've heard the pirates'
"Yo-ho, A Pirate's Life for Me" song.
Another great attraction in Adventureland
is the Swiss Family Treehouse. Based on the film about the family
shipwrecked on a deserted island, this attraction depicts their incredible treetop home.
The Swiss Family Treehouse is another
example of the Disney Imagineers' attention to detail. There are no animatronic figures or
high-tech effects, but there is running water and other amenities built totally from
salvaged items. Warning - there are lots of stairs and climbing, toddlers and those who
have trouble with stairs might want to skip it.
A less strenuous attraction is the Tiki
Birds show. This recently remodeled attraction is hosted by some of the winged stars of
recent Disney films like Iago from Aladdin. The general opinion is that it's for the
birds. Hey, even Disney can miss once in a while.
