magic kingdom at Disney World

This is where the Disney Magic really casts it’s spell. There is nothing like the feeling of walking down Main Street when first entering the park. The colorful buildings and roaming characters set a mood that is really brought home by the sight of Cinderella’s Castle in the distance. castle at dusk brush.jpg (7685 bytes)If you’re not smiling at this point, turn around and go home.

The Magic Kingdom is where many of the park’s most popular rides are located. The Magic Kingdom is the traditional starting point to the Disney experience, so get there at least twenty minutes before rope drop, (the point at which people are admitted). Times vary so call (407) 824-4321 for the latest times and schedule information.

Divided into seven sections, the Magic Kingdom houses a mixture of childrens’ classics like It’s a Small World and Pirates of the Caribbean along with some of the more wicked rides like ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter.

Don't worry, navigating the Magic Kingdom is simple. The park is laid out like a wheel with spokes. The hub of the wheel is formed by Cinderella's Castle, with the other lands surrounding it.

The first thing you should do is visit City Hall on Main Street. (see our close-up below)  That’s where you can pick up the maps and schedules you will find invaluable on your visit. There are costumed characters, daily parades, and fireworks displays that happen throughout the day, Disney prints a new park schedule every week, so pick one up and plan out your day!
